Tales From My Cube

|

Again here's something that you find funny after working at a tax office for some time, but this one is more universal.

First Nations Goods and Services Tax (FNGST)

"The First Nations goods and services tax (FNGST) is a 6% tax on taxable supplies of goods and services on certain First Nations lands. This tax applies when a band council, or other governing body, of a First Nation passes its own law imposing FNGST. The Canada Revenue Agency administers FNGST on behalf of the First Nation."

Say the letters in the acronym real fast, and you don't just get the initials of the tax, but lots of people's attitudes to it as well.

April Fools!

|

Here are my picks for the best April Fools pranks from around the Internet today:

On The Calgary Eyeopener this morning, it was reported that the Metric Commission is forcing the CFL to go metric by eliminating the yard lines from football fields and replacing them with "metre lines". The Calgary Stampeders promised to fight the ruling, as is goes against 95 years of Canadian football history and tradition, and they just got new astroturf. This echoes the failed attempt by the Metric Commission in the 1980s to make McDonald's change the name of the Quarter Pounder hamburger to the Hundred-Thirteen Grammer. (They almost got me with this one.)

Blizzard's four-pack of pranks:

Microsoft announces new Xbox 360 accessories.

Google Australia launches gDay™ with MATE™: search web pages from the future!

You Don't Know Jack's awesome April Fools show and the follow-up DisOrDat.

ThinkGeek's usual selection of geeky stuff. I think we can use the Betamax to HD-DVD Converter, we still have lots of old Beta tapes. (BUT FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS DECENT, DO NOT CLICK ON THE VIDEO!!!)

This one is kind of meta: Announcement Regarding SQUARE ENIX April Fools' Joke Release Date

Everybody in Guild Wars was turned into stick figures.

LEGO Halo is announced.

And the best of the bunch: Virgin and Google announce Virgle, an ambitious plan to fully colonize the planet Mars within the next hundred years.

But there's some bad news that almost looked like a prank: the Air Farce's show is coming to an end.
